The new pool construction process may appear daunting to many homeowners, it is really just a matter of several basic steps.

We do not just build pools, we can create entire beautiful pool- scapes with amazing additional features.

Seven Basic Steps of Pool Construction

Here is a Step-by-Step outline from Caribbean Pools and Spas, to help you know what you can expect.

STEP 1

Layout/Form/Excavation

Layout/Form

The area where the pool will be built is laid out with stakes so you can approve design and size. The stakes will then be set to grade and form boards added to create the shape. This can be easily seen from all angles so you can get an idea of how the end result will look.

Excavation

Large equipment will be used throughout this process. Underground lines may be damaged in the pool  area and the path of trucks (phone, cable, sprinkler lines, sidewalk, etc.).  Caribbean Pools will contact utility companies to identify where lines are running.  Large ruts will develop in  the access area and will be grated out at the finish.  The yard may be damaged 5 of 10 feet around the perimeter of the pool, and 7’ path from the front of the house to the pool for access.

STEP 2

Steel/Shotcrete

Steel

After excavating, a grid of #3 rebar is placed throughout the floor and walls of the pool on a 12″ center.  Extra reinforcement is placed in the top 12″ of the pool walls and the pool floor- deep to shallow slope for added strength.  An inspection is required at this time.

Shotcrete

After the inspection has passed, concrete is shot out with force to penetrate behind the rebar and applied to walls and floor to form the shape of the pool.  The concrete must be cured for a minimum of seven days. This is usually carried out  by wetting the surface every 3-4 hours with a garden hose.

STEP 3

Strip/Back Fill/Tile

Strip/Back Fill

After curing of the shell, the forms are stripped off the pool and the dirt is graded around, to level the land to prepare for the deck.

Tile

The waterline tile and stone is applied at this time to set the level of the deck and depth of the pool.  There is a wide variety of colors and styles available for you to choose from.

STEP 4

Electrical/Pluming

The next phase is plumbing  the pool. All water returns (inlets) are designed to provide the maximum circulation of your pool.    All pipes are pressure tested to ensure no leaks are in the lines which eliminates any problems later. The pipes will be run to a concrete filter pad outside the deck.  This pad will hold your pumps, filters and chlorinating systems.  The next phase is electrical.  At this stage you will need to be home to let the electrician in the house.  An inspection is required at this time.

STEP 5

Decking

The decking comes in different styles  of brick pavers or an acrylic finish.  The ground will be tamped to prevent the deck from settling and cracking.  After this stage you will be able to start your focus on the landscaping.

STEP 6

Screen Enclosure/Fencing

At this stage the screen or fencing needs to be put up and the alarms on the doors and windows need to be installed for the safety inspection.  There are specific requirement for fencing and alarms. Please ask if you have any questions so there will be no delays. You will need to be home for this inspection to let the inspector in.  No water can be put in the pool until it has passed.

STEP 7

Plaster Finish/Complete Pool

At this stage the pool shell would be cleaned and free of dirt and mud and the tile cleaned in preparation for the final finish.  After final finish is applied, the yard will be cleaned, leveled and ready for landscaping.

Completion of Construction

UPON COMPLETION IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE CUSTOMER STAY OUT OF THE POOL FOR 24 HOURS.  THE CUSTOMER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRUSHING THE POOL DAILY FOR 30 DAYS AND MAINTAINING THE BALANCE OF CHEMICALS IN THE POOL.

TYPICALLY POOLS ARE COMPLETED IN 10-12 WEEKS FROM THE DAY WE DIG.  KEEP IN MIND THAT HOME OWNER’S ASSOCIATIONS, ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARDS, AND PERMITTING IN SOME COUNTIES TAKE LONGER THAN OTHERS TO LET US GET STARTED.

ALSO, RAIN CAN BE A FACTOR AS A DELAY – ALTHOUGH IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, YOU’LL STILL CATCH US DOING WHAT WE CAN SOAKING WET!   WE KNOW YOU WANT TO BE SWIMMING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
